During an interview in 2017, John shared that a key principle they live by is moderation. They firmly believe in maintaining balance and avoiding excesses in every aspect of life. This includes adopting a healthy diet, ensuring ample rest, refraining from excessive drinking and overeating, and prioritizing regular exercise.

John, who holds the distinction of being the oldest living former UT football player, proudly represents the longevity of their marriage. Together, they have cultivated an extraordinary tradition of attending at least one UT football game each season for an astounding 84 years, a testament to their unwavering devotion to each other and their shared passions.
