Adelaide’s Marianna Bowering, a devoted mother and skilled makeup artist, has gained online admiration for her admirable efforts in raising awareness about port-wine stain birthmarks. In a touching display of love and solidarity for her daughter Angelica, Marianna utilized her makeup talents to recreate the birthmarks on her own face, promoting beauty and uniqueness.
Angelica, born on May 6, 2018, possesses a heart-shaped port-wine stain stretching from her forehead to her chin. Despite initial surprise, Marianna and her husband Corey embraced their daughter’s birthmark as a distinctive feature and celebrated her unique appearance with unwavering love.

Unfortunately, not everyone shared their perspective, leading the family to endure hurtful comments and bullying from strangers. Online, Marianna faced criticism, with some individuals describing Angelica’s face as “hideous.” In extreme cases, commenters even expressed doubts about Angelica’s future prospects, suggesting her birthmark would hinder her romantic relationships.
A port-wine stain is a reddish, purple, or pink birthmark resembling spilled wine. While it typically deepens in color over time, leading some to misinterpret Angelica’s appearance as a burn, there is no known cure for this skin condition. Laser procedures may help reduce its visibility, but the birthmark does not fade naturally. Nevertheless, this poses little concern for many children, particularly when the birthmark appears on other parts of their body.
Children with port-wine stains may be more susceptible to developing glaucoma or a neurological disorder called Sturge-Weber syndrome as they grow older. Consequently, the Bowering couple diligently ensures Angelica’s well-being through regular check-ups, prioritizing her overall health.

Marianna shared her experience of encountering hurtful comments and negativity directed at her daughter’s appearance. She found the online comment asking if her daughter’s face had been grilled particularly distressing. In person, someone at a soccer game referred to Angelica as a “defect,” which deeply hurt Marianna.
However, Marianna refused to let the negativity define her daughter. Determined to stand up against the bullies and raise awareness about port-wine stains, she decided to take action. Marianna drew a heart on her own face as a symbol of support and meticulously recreated Angelica’s port-wine stain using makeup. She shared these photos on her Instagram and various social media groups, receiving an outpouring of encouragement and support.
Marianna also shared that Angelica enjoys playing with makeup and takes pride in her own unique birthmark. This brings Marianna a sense of security, knowing that Angelica will grow up to be confident and understand the true meaning of beauty.
