Emotional Reunion: Woman Finds Missing Dog 19 Days After Car Crash

In the summer of 2018, Samantha Orr and her mother Jennifer were on a road trip in the Colorado mountains when tragedy struck. A large rock in the road caused Jennifer to swerve and the vehicle slid 600 feet down the side of a mountain, ultimately leading to her death. Samantha was left seriously injured with displaced ribs and a compressed vertebra.

Adding to Samantha’s grief was the fact that her beloved Goldendoodle, Bentley, was also in the car at the time of the accident and was nowhere to be found in the weeks following the crash. Despite the lack of leads or sightings, Samantha refused to give up hope and held onto the belief that Bentley was still out there somewhere.

Weeks turned into months, but Samantha continued to search for Bentley, posting flyers and reaching out to local animal shelters. Then, 19 days after the accident, Samantha received a call from a hiker who had spotted a dog that looked like Bentley in the area where the accident had occurred.

Samantha immediately set out to find Bentley and, after a harrowing climb up the mountain, she was reunited with her beloved pup. Bentley had miraculously survived the crash and had been living off of small animals and whatever else he could scavenge in the wild.

Samantha and Bentley’s reunion was a tearful and joyous moment, and the resilient pup became a symbol of hope and perseverance in the face of tragedy.

According to the “Bring Bentley Home” Facebook page, Samantha witnessed her beloved Goldendoodle, Bentley, being thrown from the vehicle during a fatal accident. As someone who cherished her dog and considered him to be one of her best friends, Samantha was devastated by the loss.

Desperate to find Bentley, Samantha pleaded with the public to join in the search efforts, believing that bringing him home would be crucial for the family to achieve closure. However, despite their best efforts, two weeks had passed with no sign of Bentley. Nevertheless, the family held onto the hope that he was still alive and out there somewhere.

In a Facebook post, Samantha expressed her conviction that Bentley was still scared and in need of their help. The family’s mission was clear: to bring Bentley back home to Kansas where he belonged, and to bring comfort to their grieving hearts.

Following a brief period of silence on the Facebook page, Samantha Orr received a message from Joseph Stratmann. It turns out that he had been actively searching for Bentley and had even been leaving food out for him near the location of the crash.

On a Saturday morning, 19 days after the accident, Samantha met with Joseph in the mountains to join forces in the search for Bentley. Together, they set out with hope and determination to bring the lost pup back to his loving family.

An emotional reunion

At the start of the video, one can spot Bentley gazing towards the crash site where the Jeep has been wrecked. From a distance, he is observing the wreckage and crying sounds of Orr are audible. As the video progresses, Bentley moves closer to the crash site, presumably trying to make sense of the situation.

“It’s momma,” Orr pleads. “Good boy … come, come.”

Following some initial hesitation, Bentley was eventually comforted and reassured, prompting him to dash towards her with full speed.

Thanking a rescuer

“Joe was my living guardian angel Saturday. He safely led me up the mountain, kept me calm and positive, everything I needed in that moment. At times he was a human stepping stool for me when I had no foot placement while climbing the mountain on all fours. This incredible man is the reason I was able to engage with my traumatized Bentley. Had it not been for Joe, this puppy would not have returned home. Thank you so much, Joe.”

In her blog, she shared her personal account of the sorrow she went through after the accident, along with the strategies she learned to deal with it.

“Nothing could cure the pain in my heart over the loss of my mom,” she said. “But having him back was one less loss to endure and I will be forever grateful to have my mountain man safely at home. Sometimes I watch him sleeping, flopped over on his back without a care in the world and imagine what he must’ve seen and done during those days. I can’t even begin to guess, but I’m so, so proud of him.”
