Every once in a while, we meet people who need help with something. Whether it is a homeless person on the street, someone carrying bags of heavy groceries, or even a kid who hurt his knee. However, not everyone is comfortable asking for help. In this post, we tell a story of a teen helping an elderly blind woman trying to cross the street.
A 15-year-old boy, named Dontarius Caldwell, was seen in a now-viral photo for being a good samaritan and choosing to help a blind person cross the street. The internet has seen his good deed and everyone is praising him for offering to help the elderly.
According to Dontarius, he was on his phone playing games while he was waiting for the school bus with his younger sister Diamond. It was his sister who noticed the woman who was then struggling to press the button at a crosswalk.
His younger sister told him to go to the elderly to ask if she needed help. The boy proceeded to help the blind woman but was unaware of being caught on camera. According to him, he didn’t realize that his kind act would be uploaded online and even go viral.
In the beginning, they did not know that the woman was blind. It was Diamond who supposed the situation so she prompted her brother to help the elderly cross the road. She said that Dontarius helped the blind woman twice as they continued to wait for their school bus to come.
When the young man went to the lady, he asked her if she needed help to which the woman answered yes and held his hand. Dontarius guided the elderly to cross the street safely.
The teenage boy did not intend to tell his story to the local media as he said that he only did what he needed to do – to help the blind woman.
Dontarius was surprised to learn that he would be on camera and said that he was just trying to help.
He also emphasized how he was just giving the lady a helping hand and that everybody should get a helping hand.
This act of kindness was uploaded on social media and garnered thousands of views as the boy was also praised for his kind actions.
The young man also mentioned that if you are a kind person, you will also receive the same kindness that you’ve given to someone else.
As a reward for his kindness, Dontarius was given by his school a key to the premises.
This story should serve as a lesson to be kind to the people we meet as well as be good enough to offer help to someone who might need it. Let us practice good deeds and they will surely be passed on to one another.
