The media has extensively reported on Céline Dion’s health following her noticeable weight loss, leading her fans to express concerns about her changing appearance. However, the singer herself has expressed her desire to be left alone regarding this matter. In an interview with The Sun, the Canadian-born artist sent a direct message to those who critique her looks, stating, “If I am content with my appearance, I prefer not to discuss it. Please refrain from taking pictures. If you appreciate it, I appreciate your presence. If not, kindly respect my privacy.”
Recently, however, it was reported by a representative of hers that Dion suffers from muscle spasm, something that affects her ability to be on stage. As a result, along with the pandemic which affected the course of many people’s lives, Dion was forced to cancel several concert dates in Las Vegas, first in November of last year, and then from January 19 to February 5, 2022
“The statement disclosed that Celine has been facing debilitating and enduring muscle spasms that have hindered her ability to perform,” it stated.
“Her medical team is diligently assessing and providing treatment for her condition. Unfortunately, the symptoms she is currently enduring have impeded her participation in the ongoing rehearsals for the upcoming show.”
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Celine personally expressed her profound sadness regarding the postponed concert dates and the health challenges she has been grappling with..
“Hello, everyone. I apologize for the delay in reaching out to you. I truly miss each and every one of you and eagerly anticipate the day when I can connect with you on stage, face-to-face,” Dion expressed in the heartfelt video.
“As you know, I’ve always believed in being transparent and honest, but it took me some time to gather the courage to speak up. Now, I feel ready. I have been grappling with health issues for quite some time, and it has been an immense challenge for me to confront and discuss everything I have been going through.
“Recently, I received a diagnosis for an incredibly rare neurological disorder called stiff-person syndrome, which affects only a minute fraction of the population, roughly one in a million people. While we are still learning about this rare condition, we have determined that it is the underlying cause of the spasms that have been plaguing me. Regrettably, these spasms impact every aspect of my daily life, making it challenging to walk and depriving me of my usual ability to sing using my vocal cords.”
“I am putting in tremendous effort alongside my sports medicine therapist every single day to regain my strength and return to performing, but I must admit that it has been an uphill battle,” she expressed. “Singing is my passion—it is what I have dedicated my entire life to, and it brings me immeasurable joy.”
“I yearn for your presence. I long to see all of you, to be back on stage, and to perform for you. I always give my absolute best during my shows, but my current condition prevents me from delivering that level of performance at this time,” she continued.
In closing the video, Dion expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am deeply appreciative of your kind wishes, love, and support that you have shared with me on social media. It means the world to me.”
“Please take good care of yourselves. Stay well. I adore all of you tremendously, and I genuinely hope that I will have the opportunity to see you again in the near future.”
