In 1994, Hollywood actor Brad Pitt acquired a 1.9-acre property from Elvira, also known as Cassandra Peterson, for $1.7 million. The property was in Pitt’s possession for 30 years before he sold it in March of this year.
In a recent interview with People, Peterson talked about the sale of her property to the Oscar-winning actor, revealing an interesting tidbit about their neighborly relationship. Along with being the new owner of her former home, Pitt also served as an unexpected landlord to a tenant on the property. Peterson shares more details on this surprising role that Pitt played in the exclusive interview.
According to the actress, the expansion of Brad Pitt’s home was the catalyst for what happened next. She explained, “I think there were about 22 houses contiguous to the edge of the property. And every time they came up, he bought one.”
One of the homes that Pitt acquired belonged to a 90-year-old man. Pitt made an arrangement to purchase the plot of land on the family estate where the man could continue to reside.
Peterson revealed that Pitt was extremely generous towards John, the husband of the previous owner who had passed away. “He was very, very kind to the husband. His wife passed away and the husband, John, lived there,” she said. “I know that Brad allowed him to live there without paying anything until he died.”
Although John’s stay was expected to be brief, he ended up living on the property for quite a while. “It was kind of funny because John lived to be 105,” Peterson added with a hint of amusement. She joked that Pitt might have thought that John could live there until he passed away, which could have happened at any moment.
After Peterson sold her property to Brad Pitt, she continued to reside in the vicinity by purchasing another home in the area. During her time as Pitt’s neighbor, Peterson had nothing but positive things to say about him, describing him as a generous and compassionate individual.
Recalling an amusing encounter, Peterson shared that she once ran into Pitt while walking her dog. “I go past Brad’s garage and he’s in there wearing only sweatpants. He’s got on boxing gloves and he is punching a bag. I swear I almost fainted,” she recounted.
Peterson went on to describe how starstruck she was when Pitt greeted her during their encounter. “I remember he goes, ‘Hey, how are you?’ and I’m like, ‘Huh?’ I couldn’t talk. I was turning red. I felt like I was fainting,” she said. “He’s just so stunningly, handsome – and nice, to top it off.”
It’s worth noting that before their high-profile divorce in 2016, Pitt and his former wife Angelina Jolie resided in the home that was eventually sold. They lived there for a number of years with their children.
